“I am often drawn to subjects which have a sense of slippage such as the coast where wet mud or rock pools gives way to water which reflects the sky, or woods where light falling on a visual tangle creates tension between the form and weight of the subject and the play of light which both reveals and disguises it. “
Solo Exhibition - Traveller’s Joy
Saturday 11 April – Sunday 26 April
Star Brewery Gallery, Lewes
Tuesday–Saturday 11am–4pm | Sunday 11am–3pm | Closed Monday
My latest show explores my longstanding fascination with particular places and subjects—from an ancient Yew Tree in Stanmer Park to wild Hawthorn bushes in blossom, the rugged rocks of Hope Gap, and the fleeting beauty of Traveller’s Joy in autumn. Painting directly from life, I aim to capture how changing light and weather constantly renew the experience, making each encounter with the subject feel like a rediscovery. This process of returning to the same places across seasons and years becomes a kind of inward journey, deepening my connection to the landscape.
